The Singer and The Song features three full sets of music for dancing, drinking and listening, with the exciting bonus of a new song from each band, written from a word prompt given in advance.

The artists also pay tribute to Chicago’s music roots by covering a song by another local artist, present or past.

At its heart, this series is a showcase for the incredible songwriting talent of the Chicago music scene, with an emphasis on Country, but including the broadest definitions of Americana.

The monthly event is often hosted by the show’s curators; Brandon Good, Lawrence Peters, and Matt Gandurski, each a key player in Chicago’s music community.

Thrifty Kid is an alternative country band out of Chicago, Illinois. Blending the songwriting of greats like John Prine and Townes Van Zandt with the rowdiness of a Honky Tonk dance floor. The Honky Tonk comes from some Honky Tonk legends such as Buck Owens, George Jones, Emmylou Harris, and Gram Parsons just to name a few. The Bobcat Boys

The Bobcat Boys** are a honky-tonk band based in Chicago. They are known for their "high-octane, whiskey-soaked" sound, which they describe as "honky tonk with a heart full of country."

Their music is a danceable mix of classic country influences, with a sound that features crying steel guitar, a stomping rhythm section, and vocals with a raw, road-worn delivery and a classic country croon. The band draws inspiration from legends of country music, from Buck Owens to Jerry Jeff Walker, from The Flying Burrito Brothers to Waylon Jennings.
