Show Up Chicago: The New New Journalism

Hosted monthly by the Hideout and the Blue Beginning chapter of Indivisible Chicago, Show Up Chicago is a combination community gathering, cocktail hour, and political panel show. It's a great chance to mingle with like-minded neighbors, hear from choice guest speakers, and gossip about the issues we all care about.

This month our topic is The New New Journalism. As the legacy news outlets crumble and capitulate, a new breed of independent and community-based journalists rises with the help of distribution channels like Substack, TikTok, YouTube, etc. Whom do we trust? How do we verify? Where does the new news environment lead us as we approach the crucial midterm elections? Our guest experts will be former Tribune editor Mark Jacob, now proprietor of the Substack newsletter Stop the Presses, and Steve Held, cofounder of the independent news website Unraveled.
