Julie Pomerleau is sometimes known as Monica Boubou, the semi-glamorous sidekick of Bobby Conn, and the lead violinist in Girl Group Chicago. She occasionally sits in with the Chicago Klezmer Ensemble. She has been a session violinist over the years for Boxhead Ensemble, Cheer-Accident, Detholz!, Jim O'Rourke, Joan of Arc, Red, Red Meat, U.S. Maple, You Fantastic!, You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, and many others. She lives with Bobby Conn, their two kids and two cats in Humboldt Park.

I have always thought of myself as a quintessential side player, so I am excited to step up to the front for the Hideout Tuesday Night Residency in March. I am going to explore some of the sounds I love--the counterpoint of Bach, the close harmonies of George Gershwin, the soulfulness of Miles Davis, the lush arrangements of the French orchestral pop of Michel Colombier. And you can be sure that strings will be at the center of each evening. I am thrilled that some of my favorite musicians in Chicago will be joining me each Tuesday.
The French Pop Orchestra
For my final evening, I will present in some form of completion a project that I have wanted to do for many years—to orchestrate and perform the 12 songs of Michel Colombier’s Capot Pointu. Michel Colombier (1939-2004) was a French film score composer, who also did many of Serge Gainsbourg’s fantastic orchestral arrangements. I promise you that these songs will get stuck in your brains! I have been feverishly writing out parts for the musicians with guidance from my scoring mentor, Jim Cooper (Detholz!). Jim will also be playing bass on stage, along with an all-star lineup of musicians—Nora Barton (Quartet Datura), Bobby Conn, Lise Gilly (Grupo Chacha, Girl Group Chicago), Josh Johannpeter (Mahjongg, Water Babies), Ronnie Kuller (Mucca Pazza ), Abraham Levitan (Baby Teeth, Shame That Tune), Jeff Thomas (Mucca Pazza, the Jeff Thomas Orchestra), and others! DJ Easy Ed of Easy Listening Magazine will open and close the evening.
