Our guest for July’s Monkey Wrench is media critic Adam H. Johnson, one of the hosts of Citations Needed, “a podcast about the media, power, PR, and the history of bullshit.” In an interview that mixes humor with discussion, we’ll talk with Johnson about the ways class interest and media ownership warp the narratives of the news as well as those we see in pop culture, including in movies, comedy and even video games. We’ll also talk a bit about his interest and coverage of criminal justice reform and prison abolition efforts (make sure to check out his other podcast “The Appeal” devoted to these topics).
