Want to know why the dinosaurs really went extinct, or why lichens live forever? Join The Field Museum at The Hideout for drinks and discussions about all manners of natural history with scientists who study everything from ancient meteorites to urban farming practices in Chicago. Every second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $5.
Bats, Rats, and Cats, Oh My!
The spookiest holiday is just around the corner, but bats, rats, and cats are far more than tropes in horror movies. Field scientist Bruce Patterson travels into the heart of caves in Kenya to help study and protect bat populations, but he's also an expert on small rodents and lions. Get ready for a scientifically-accurate Halloween celebration of three of our favorite mammals, with decorations, real specimens, and a couple of surprises to boot.
