Dos Santos: Anti-Beat Orquesta
Dos Santos: Anti-Beat Orquesta
Dos Santos: Anti-Beat Orquesta rocks the sounds of popular pan-Latin American dance genres—from cumbia to salsa. Recently voted Chicago's Best Emerging Artist of 2015 by the Deli Magazine's Readers Poll, their gritty, grassroots approach captures the “golden age” of streamlined tight-knit ensembles that shook sweatbox dance floors with raw and fierce energy throughout Latin America in the 1970s and 80s—honest dance music with no frills and no fear, anchored by piercing guitars, garage organs, and spirited percussion.

The group’s five members (Peter Vale, Alex Chavez, Daniel Villarreal-Carrillo, Jaime Garza, Nathan Karagianis) have their own storied careers in a diversity of styles—including jazz, R&B/soul, traditional Mexican folk, punk, cumbia, salsa, and electronica—in addition to a history of critical involvement in arts education and social justice organizing. Their visceral sound draws from this sonic, cultural, and political well of influence, and is guaranteed to make you move.

After making their debut in May of 2013, Dos Santos has been steadily making the rounds at Chicago’s premiere live music venues and festivals. In March of 2015, they released their critically-acclaimed self-titled debut album Dos Santos and subsequently made appearances at SXSW, the Pachanga Latino Music Festival, and the Ruido Fest Latin Alternative Music Festival. Shortly thereafter, they hit the road on their "Corre Caballo Tour." The band is currently working on an EP with producer Beto Martínez of Grammy Award-winning Grupo Fantasma to be released in Fall 2016.
Magic Carpet
Magic Carpet
Hypnotizing, intoxicating and exotic. Magic Carpet honors ancient music while taking a bold step into the future. Transcending geographical boundaries, this music group takes the audience on an exhilarating ride through time and space. With the vibrations of Jazz, Reggae, and Funk, blended with the traditions of Africa, the Middle East, and India, Magic Carpet embarks on a spiritual journey every time they take off.

The eclectic ensemble is composed of, Derf Noskcaj aka Fred Jackson (alto sax), Ryan "Ra'yon" Mayer (percussion) , Makaya McCraven aka "Lord Bang" (drum set) Parish "Pfunk" Hick (bass guitar) Tim "Cream"Jones (guitar), and introducing Tracey King, the Creative, who blends lyrical spoken Word with movement to melody.

The diversity of the musicians creates the unique sound that is Magic Carpet. Each instrumentalist is focused on cultivating excellence in his particular area of study and experience. This is the contribution that he brings to the "Carpet", while maintaining an openness to learn and share new ideas, which enables the evolution of this World Music that is the "Magic", Magic Carpet is committed to advancing the realm of Musical Anthropology.

The members are not only musicians, but teachers that regularly engage in excavating the history of music and the connection between ancient cultures. A goal of the group is to promote the similarities of people through the context of music. Energetically exploring traditional rhythms, North African and Middle Eastern maqams, East African pentatonic scales, Indian ragas, and Western Jazz modes and improvisation, they use these elements as threads to weave the tapestry of Magic Carpet.

Collectively, members in the band have performed and recorded with accomplished artists such as Najib Bahri, Alvin Batiste, Morris Jennings, Howard Levy, Alberto Mizrahi, Dewey Redman, Hamid Drake, Issa Boulos, Stuart Rosenberg, Boys II Men, Fred Anderson, Steel Pulse, Ludacris, Talib Kweli, Burning Spear, Israel Vibration, Nicole Mitchell, Ato Alemayehu Fanta, Ato Teferra Mekonnen, and many more.

Recently, they began performing semi-weekly at Viceroy Indian Restaurant, on the famous strip of Devon Avenue in Chicago. They have performed at various music and art festivals over the years. They are currently working on collaborations with dancers of Indian, Tunisian, Egyptian, and Ethiopian traditions to further the Magic Carpet experience.

Metal Tongues
Metal Tongues
Metal Tongues is a project of multi-instrumentalist Elliot Bergman. Using the elemental materials of wood and metal in his arsenal of hand made kalimbas, Bergman (also of Wild Belle) summons other-worldly textures and rhythms out of his electrified creations. He's joined by a rotating cast of collaborators that include some of his favorite drummers, Chad Taylor and Gerald Cleaver, and fellow synth explorers Ben Vida and Justin Walter. Bergman was a key instigator in Brooklyn's beloved Zebulon community, a touring member of Iron & Wine, and is currently a principal in Wild Belle.
