Kelly Hogan

"Hogan has the range of a gospel belter, the phrasing of a jazz diva, a bit of a country twang, and a taste for humor that makes her something of a difficult fit in the these category-obsessed times.” — Chicago Tribune

"Kelly Hogan is a national treasure"-- Andrew Bird

Vocalist Kelly Hogan — more often known as go-to back-up singer for bands such as The Decemberists, Neko Case, Mavis Staples, Iron & Wine, Jakob Dylan, and Alejandro Escovedo — makes a very rare headlining solo band appearance SAT JAN 11th, 2020 at her beloved Chicago haunt, The Hideout.

Backed by an all-star band featuring her bad-ass touring buddy Nora O’Connor on bass, John Carpender (Expo ’76) on drums, multi-instrumentalists Max Crawford (Poi Dog Pondering) and Paul Mertens (Brian Wilson) of Chicago’s Total Pro Horns playing everything they can lay their hands on — and a very special appearance by Hogan’s dear friend and former bandmate, guitar wizard Andy Hopkins (Mr. Rudy Day, Andrew Bird) who’s making the trip from Atlanta just to throw down with the gang.

Additional special guests (from Hogan’s other bands The Flat Five, The Struts, and more) are bound to show up and sit in — because the trap will be baited with cake. Yep, it’s Hogan’s birthday and she’ll sing if she wants to. And you know she wants to.

Our very special opening act is Hogan’s new favorite country & western siren and rhinestone-crusted shape-shifter — the amazing singer Andrew Sa — with his band The Blue Boys. Don’t be late!

Andrew Sa

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Andrew Sa is a Chicago based singer-songwriter. Raised on classic country crooners like Roy Orbison and Patsy Cline, his emotional vocal stylings evoke heartbreak and loneliness. His western songs draw inspiration from Chicago’s vibrant queer community, gay literature, and science fiction. He’s a permanent fixture at the Hideout’s recurrent Cosmic Country Showcase and groovy Liam Kazar’s back-up vocalist. Currently in the process of recording his debut album, you can follow him on Instagram for updates and upcoming gigs @lonesomeandrew

****Note from the Hideout****

Andrew is maybe one of our favorite and most beloved singers to come through, you really should not miss his opening set.
