Clip Art
Clip Art is the spooky little brother of pop. It's the amalgamated pet sounds of someone who didn't care about the music of the 80s or the 90s until he was in his 20s. It's a tight-rope walk masquerading as the twist.

Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andy Rosenstein has been making music under the Clip Art moniker since 2008, but spent most of that time playing in other people's bands. After leaving behind life on the road with JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound (Bloodshot Records) in 2014, he was finally ready to put his own work first. Clip Art's debut LP Culler comes out in April 2015.

In 2012, the Chicago Reader's Miles Raymer described Rosenstein as "a sharp songwriter with an obvious encyclopedic knowledge of pop-music history and the considerable technical ability needed to evoke some of its finer moments." It was written as a compliment, but hit like damning faint praise, and pushed Clip Art to create something distinctive.

With Culler, Clip Art moves from musical impersonation to impressionism. Every song has some chemistry buried inside. Bastardized new jack swing playing in a noir cabaret. Synthesizers and vibraphone set side by side to a driving krautrock beat. A mellotron orchestra preceding a ground-rattling fuzz bass. And space. For all that's packed into each song, the record has space.

Culler is a record about the mistakes of the past, getting by in the present, and guarded optimism for the future. It's about small victories, sympathy for our losses, regrets for our failures, and big middle fingers for those we disdain. It's honest modern music projected in technicolor.
