Outer Minds
Outer Minds
Outer Minds have descended upon a sound that's reflected the last half decade of trudging and persisting, honing their craft into a sleek, moody, and more intense vehicle, tightly locked into its groove, and a perfect sum of it's five unique parts. Escaping the trappings of the mundane minions of psych-peddlers and reverb rookies clouding up the landscape, these five have burst through, and turned into a darker, more ominous machine, sharpening their claws and sawing their infectious melodic mesmerizations into your soul.

Awash with surging melodies and vocal walls so high you can't even see the top, this band is finally getting the double-takes and longing stares they've been deserving for years, pulling in new converts at a steady clip and winning over the wretched simultaneously. The familiar, yet haunting organ interwoven with the 12-string Danelectro vibrations instantly sends chills to all your extremities, and the pulsating rhythm throbs and pummels its way right into oblivion, causing the energy levels at live performances to reach dizzying heights. As they sharpen their sound into a legion of 60s pop/psych textures and nuances normally reserved for the baroque set with their impeccable glockenspiel-laden arrangements, Outer Minds weave a rich web of sound around hypnotic hooks and deliver an impressive performance both live and on record, equally worthy of your immediate attention. With all five integral members serving time in such illustriously diverse bands as Baseball Furies, The Deccas, Black Beauties, Lover!, Functional Blackouts and The Runnies, it's no wonder how well they come together as Outer Minds, breaking through into a higher state of mind and forming a true force in Chicago underground music for years to come.
The Velcro Lewis Group
The Velcro Lewis Group
The Velcro Lewis Group is an inner-stellar soul and rock band that is both heavy and danceable.
They possess the harmonies of tMotown, the groove of Stax, the drugs of Hawkwind, and the drive of Bohannon.
Your party being crashed for the better.
Miracle Condition
Miracle Condition
Miracle Condition is a trio featuring U.S. Maple guitarist Mark Shippy and drummer Pat Samson, with Matt Carson on guitar and vocals. The group formed in late 2006 and quickly morphed their more experimental leanings into their own brand of cinematic, illustrative spacegaze. Where U.S. Maple was known for deconstructing rock music, Miracle Condition traffics those images seen in the moments between sleeping and waking, pushing the sonic envelope into the dream world. Layers of guitar, sheets of percussion and fragile, glasslike voices from Shippy and Carson hint at elements of the psychedelic and shoegaze genres. In the live setting Miracle Condition is shatteringly loud - the droning interrupted by Samson's uniquely expressive drum patterns. With their forthcoming release on the Tizona label, Miracle Condition will undoubtedly command attention from anyone within earshot.
Bitchin Bajas
Bitchin Bajas
Bitchin' Bajas began in 2010 as a solo side project for Cooper Crain, guitarist of Chicago Krautrock revivalists Cave. The early sounds of Bitchin' Bajas were equally psychedelic but decidedly less aggressive than Crain's primary band, opting for more textural exploration than rhythmic force. The project quickly became prolific in its release of music, starting with the Tones/Zones full-length in 2010, and trickling out split singles, EPs, cassette-only releases, and the like among more actualized full-lengths every year that followed. The solo project was expanded to a duo with the inclusion of Mahjongg's Dan Quinlivan, adding more synth and guitar textures to Crain's web of spectral sound. Albums documenting the group's development arrived often, with 2011's Water Wrackets, 2012's Vibraquatic, and 2013's more fully realized Bitchitronics. Though the band had either self-released their music or worked with a variety of lesser-known indie labels, Bitchitronics arrived on indie giant Drag City.
