A Jason Molina Celebration
A Jason Molina Celebration
Join members of Songs: Ohia and author Erin Osmon (Jason Molina: Riding with the Ghost) for an evening of readings, discussion and song, to honor the impactful life and work of the late singer-songwriter Jason Molina.

In July 2002 Molina gathered a hand-picked coterie of musicians for what would become his most heralded album, The Magnolia Electric Co. Many were longtime friends from his days as a student and misfit solo singer-songwriter at Oberlin College. Others were new acquaintances who Molina admired. The group gathered at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio, united by a spirit of creative camaraderie, and steered by demos Molina had crafted in his Uptown apartment. The resulting album remains a testament to Molina’s unique songwriting voice and commitment to working under an umbrella of improvisation, affording creative autonomy to each session player—beautiful, inspiring and heartbreaking lightning in a bottle.

Jim Grabowski, Dan MacAdam, Jeff Panall, Lawrence Peters, Dan Sullivan and Rob Sullivan from the Magnolia session will be joined by special guests to pay tribute to their friend and brother Jason Molina, and his impressive songbook. Erin Osmon, author of Molina’s biography, will join them for readings from the book and a Q&A with the band about the Magnolia session, their time with Molina at Oberlin College and other stirring, hilarious and devastating stories from Molina’s fascinating life.
