Universal Vibrations
Star Creature Universal Vibrations Records & The Boogie Munsters Crew present a night of live Boogie, Funk and Disco Entertainment paired with dancing and positive futuristic attitudes.
Shiro Schwarz
Shiro Schwarz
Translated through a hybrid German/Japanese dictionary, their name means White Black, however their live shows come through major across the polychromatic spectrum, even going so far as including colors that haven’t even been invented yet. This Latin Lover Audio/Visual duo puts a twist on the synth heavy, post disco “Boogie” sound that launches their audiences out of their space-time continuum comfort zone. They sing, they dance, they shred synths and they bring mind-bending visuals that will lighten your gravitational load.

2016 was a breakout year for this South of Border funk clique. A simultaneous debut of both a 12” on LA’s Mofunk records and a 7” on Chicago’s Star Creature Records launched them into their first Terrestrial North American tour including stops at Dam Funk’s Funkmosphere, LA’s Modern Funk Fest, San Francisco’s Sweater Funk, Chicago’s QUEEN! @ SmartBar, C’mon Everybody in Brooklyn, Marble Bar in Detroit, Bump & Hustle in St. Louis and even the House of Vans stop in their native Mexico City.

They closed out the year with their first 12” EP also on Chicago’s Star Creature Records which includes a collaboration with Star Creature Captain Tim Zawada in the form of a VHS-only A/V Mixtape featuring 1 hour of their signature visualizations created and directed by Shiro aka Pamm with audio mixed by TZ. Having spent winter in their studio orbiting the planet, they have NASA clearance to continue the journey in promotion of their latest 7” featuring two contemporary boogie classics in the form of their future-hits “Together” and “Boogie Ghost”
Donnell Pitman and Wings of Sunshine
Donnell Pitman and Wings of Sunshine
Any Disco DJ worth their weight in vinyl knows the name Donnell Pitman, and until now this has been mostly due to his highly sought after work of the late 70s and early 80s. Renewed interest in Donnell has reached critical peak over the past few years, fueled by Red Greg’s feature of Donnell’s seminal “Love Explosion” on Joey Negro’s Under the Influence vinyl compilation series and Chicago’s Numero Group putting out long forgotten, unreleased boogie bangers “Burning Up” and “Taste of Honey” in 2015.

It was this refreshed enthusiasm that caught the attention of producer Kumar McMillian of Chicago-based disco ensemble Wings of Sunshine. Kumar’s group was looking for another vocal collaborator following their 7” debut release on Star Creature Records. A casual introduction led to an informal studio session between the two culminating in a modern disco masterpiece. The record release party at The Hideout will be the first time Donnell has performed in Chicago since the mid-80s and he’s excited to share his first new single in just as long and preview new material for the upcoming LP.
Proh Mic
Proh Mic
He’s a familiar name and face around Chicago with releases on local funky establishments such as Cherries Records and All Natural Records, but his constant globe trotting leaves folks wondering where this funky fella originates from. His aura paints a picture of a different time and space, sometimes the past, sometimes the future. While his birth Certificate points to Seattle as his place of origin, his music suggest that he is other-worldly. With a style that combines elements of jazz, funk, soul, and hip hop, Proh Mic is pure boogie bliss. He has established himself as an artist with a distinct sensibility for the lost art of creating music, making people dance and sharing good times through aural sonics. Past collaborators include artists ranging from Dam-Funk to Coultrain, X-Clan to Pharcyde. Let’s see what he has in store for Star Creature!
