Liturgy is an art-inflected transcendental black metal band from New York. In 2011 Thrill Jockey released their sophomore record Aesthethica to high acclaim from such publications as the New York Times, Spin, Pitchfork and the New Yorker. Their unconventional attitude towards the genre both musically and visually, along with the publication of the "Transcendental Black Metal" manifesto by frontman Hunter Hunt-Hendrix has sparked great controversy both inside and outside the metal community.
