My Gold Mask

At the crossroads of underground and over the top, zoned in and plugged out, raw and riotous, lives Chicago’s My Gold Mask. The goth pop band’s exotic gypsy spells and murderous garage rock ballads have built a unique wall of sound that some have likened to a metallic symphony—pretty impressive when you consider My Gold Mask has, until recently, been a duo.
Lead vocalist and percussionist Gretta Rochelle first met guitarist Jack Armondo at a rooftop party; their first words to each other were about music, and ever since the conversation has stayed there, resulting in two well-received EPs in 2010: A Thousand Voices and A Million Miles (From Where We Were Last) as well a self-titled debut LP and the band’s latest, 2013’s Leave Me Midnight, all of which has Pitchfork calling them “a band to watch.”
Part of My Gold Mask’s success is that they have always been a band of versatility. When they needed percussion, Rochelle taught herself how to play; when they wanted to fill out the textured nuances of their sound, they commissioned drummer James Andrew (now a fully-fledged member of the band); and wanting to explore further musical territory, they’ve started experimenting with electronic flourishes that will turn listeners on their feet, ready for the warehouse dance party.

Light Foils

“Shoegaze is not dead” says Chicago, IL band Lightfoils. Formed in Autumn of 2010, five friends (guitarist Zeeshan Abbasi, vocalist Nicole Baksinskas, bassist Cory Osborne, drummer John Rungger, and guitarist Neil Yodnane) came together to play the type of music that naturally drives them. Taking their name from the scientific discovery that light has ability to lift and steer objects, Lightfoils aspires to create complex music that sends the listeners on a musical journey that ultimately catapults them into a state of pure sonic-infused reverie. As they transport their listeners and send them on that voyage, they too take themselves on their own flight, with a final destination of establishing a unique sonic signature in the Shoegaze scene.
From their very first show, Lightfoils have set the bar, garnering local and long distance bookings and even a television appearance. Despite their relative “newness” as a group, Lightfoils’ members individually are seasoned Shoegazers and in a short amount of time they have managed to share the stage with the likes of Dead Leaf Echo, Screen Vinyl Image, Chatham Rise and Ringo Deathstarr just to name a few.

Love and Radiation

Lakshmi Ramgopal and Adele Nicholas are Love and Radiation; they create guitar-driven laptop pop. Love and Radiation blends dance-influenced electronic beats, distorted guitars and pretty vocal melodies into songs that strike a balance between synthpop and rock 'n' roll.
