This Week at the Hideout!

Hello friends!

Before this weeks events a couple of things of note.  Veggie Bingo is coming back starting on June 18th and going until the end of August!  Come on out for great prizes, great drinks and free hot dogs every Wednesday this summer!  Also, tickets are on sale here for the Hideout Block Party / Onion & A.V. Fest on Friday September 5 and Saturday September 6, 2014.  Full line-up will be announced on May 28th!

Tonight, the Immediate Sound Series presents Fred Lonberg-Holm’s Lightbox Orchestra – All Drummers Edition.  It’s going to be a wild one with 9 drummers playing at once.  The line-up is Mikel P Avery, Tim Daisy, Glenn Kotche, Ståle Liavik, John Niekrasz, Marc Riordan, Frank Rosaly, Charles Rumback and MichaelZerang all conducted by Fred LonbergHolm.

Thursday we have Brokeback and Marisa Anderson.  This is a fantastic double bill of some extraordinary musicians.  Douglas McCombs’s goal for his longstanding Brokeback project has always been to do service to those fleeting moments in life when everything seems clear and defined and beautiful and the hair stands up on the back of your neck.  Combining boundless creative imagination with a deep reverence for American folk, blues and country music, Marisa Anderson’s guitar playing is fluid, emotional, dexterous and original.

Friday, we premiere a new comedy show The 53rd Ward: After Dark. Fictional Alderman Ed Bus brings “53rd Ward: After Dark” to the Hideout. This part late-night talk show, part variety show, part community meeting is just what Chicago ordered. Featuring live music, sketches, interviews and shenanigans, the Alderman is back and stronger than ever.

Later, we have Lorelle Meets the Obsolete.  Brewing a hot pot of shoegaze and Krautrock bubbled through a psych filter, the band knows how to ride the edge of groove and gently cut back to spacey atmospherics to superb effect.  Chicago favorites onYou and Magic Castles open.

Saturday, we have a massive 4 band bill with North by North at the top.  Influenced by the shadowy, dark pop majesty of Queens of the Stone Age and the downright possessed guitar work of Jack White, North by Northhave sweated it out in basements and clubs over the last four years.  Also on the bill we have the rock n roll trioThe Holy Motors, Repblic of Lights and Tesla Rossa.

Dance party at midnight is We Theory.  We Theory has been cooking up a new foot-friendly mixtape for the Hideout Saturday Night dance party. Come shake a leg to eclectic music from the past and present set along bassy beats and throwback music videos on the projector

Sunday, we have the story-telling comedy of Making Out with Wes Perry.  Special guests Sean Rose, Blue Redder, and more to be announced shortly!  Join us for a night of music, comedy and performance art.

Monday, we have Robbie Fulks with Ms Freda Love Smith of the Blake Babies.

Tuesday, we have the comedy stylings of Danny Black as he presents his long running comedy series theGod, Sex, Death Variety Hour.

Then, at 9pm, we have the final night of blues wonder kid Davy Knowles.  This will be your last chance to catch him play as he closes down his Residency.  Thanks to all who came out for it!

See you soon
