Our seventeenth annual Block Party is getting closer every day! Buzz is certainly building surrounding Neko Case‘s announcement that a new album is on its way on September 3rd, just mere days before she’s playing here! In our charitable way a portion of every ticket sold will benefit a variety of Chicago charities, includingRock For Kids. So help out the community and yourself and get tickets today.
On to this week. It’s a sexy one.
Tonight we have the literary brawl known as Write Club. Rule number one: come. Rule number two: last one before a summer break. Rule number three: come.
Tonight is the third day of Marvin Tate’s residency. Joining him is Dan Bitney of Tortoise, P Michael of Ono, Vell Mullens of Moses Gunn and George Blaize of D-settlement. Focusing on improvisations and freak-outs this will be a great one!
On Wednesday we have Chicago based cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm with special guests. Fred has played and studied music in a variety of situations from the Juilliard School to the gutter. A former student of Anthony Braxton, Morton Feldman, Bunita Marcus and Pauline Oliveros, his primary projects are his Valentine Trio and The Lightbox Orchestra. Two sets of free jazz.
On Thursday get ready to SWEAT. We have the unabashedly brave and hilarious rapper Big Dipper. Over 200K views on his Drip Drop video. This night will be so hot it will be unbearable. Also performing is Deja K Taylor. Deja is an amazing poet and will be hurling truths at your face. Keeping the party going well into the night is DJ Swaguerilla, you know his fierceness from our Chances Dances party
Friday we welcome some awesome comedic talent from the Northside who promise to Kill All Comedy. This is the best of this monthly show from the upstairs gallery so all the comics are bringing their A game. No better place to start a weekend then the Hideout at 6:30.
Saturday is the sexy sultry sounds of Jinx Titanic. Coming from his porno punk roots in Super 8 Cum Shot, he has transformed into a man of all genres including rockabilly, R&B, and gospel. Directly supporting them we have the Carpacho y Su Super Combo. First time a salsa band has been in the Hideout in awhile. Kaldi Jones opens.
Dance Party begins at midnight with DJ Moose. Funk, soul, disco, and crowd pleasers. Oh, and his last gig was the 2013 Chief Inaugural Ball. Presidential party!
Sunday is our annual Day in the Country. Now in its seventh year, this beloved festival features the best country music that Chicago has to offer, including honky tonk, bluegrass, string band, countrypolitan, Cajun, and beyond. Cajun Vagabonds, Hat Stretchers, Western Elstons, Angela James, Al Scorch, Country Doctors, Bubbly Creek Bluegrass Band, the Lawrence Peters Outfit, Red Meat, Majors Junction, Cropduster and Rivals of the Peacemaker. Too much darn fun y’all!
