Plenty of action going on this week, but first a reminder that the debut of the Bellwether Market and Music Festival is happening this weekend! This Saturday and Sunday starting at noon we are hosting the event of the summer! We’ll have fantastic vendors such as Fleur, Acorn Markets and iamhome and great food including Ada Street Restaurant, Puffs of Doom, and Revolution Brewing. On top of that there are some amazing bands to come check out! Bellwether features performances outside The Hideout and in the street by Tortoise’s Jeff Parker, The Paulina Hollers, Abraham Levitan, Ami Saraiya & The Outcome, Black Bear Combo, and the Low Down Brass Band. Plus, DJ sets by Damon Locks, Tony Sarabia, Peter Margasak, Reckless Records, and more! This Saturday and Sunday. Be there!

Thursday, we It’s the second annual CFA MEDIA MIXER! Chicago Film Archives is mixing their footage with 3 Chicago experimental filmmakers with 3 Chicago audio artists. The collaborations are Cauleen Smith and the Eternals, JesseMcLean and Sich Mang, and Alexander Stewart and Sam Prekop. Alison Cuddy hosts the evening and closing out the night with a bang is the electric art rockers Bobby Conn & Monica Boubou. Support an important Chicago institution and come out.
Friday, at 6:30 is The Interview Show hosted by Mark Bazer. Special guests this week are Jami Attenberg, author of “The Middlesteins”, Illinois State Senator Daniel Biss, Art Institute Curator Gloria Groom, editorial director Keith Phipps.
No late show that evening because we’ll be getting ready for Bellwether! That’s all Saturday and Sunday. After dusk happens the party keeps going with DJs on the street, the Sign Painters movie in the Hideout, and NEDtalks over at High Concept Labs.
Monday we have Robbie Fulks singing sweet summer pop music with Liam Davis, Nora O’Connor, Alex Hall and Scott Stevenson.
At 6:30 on Tuesday we have the Kind of Blue Comedy Series. This week Kenny DeForsest, Drew Michael, Joe McAdam, and Derek Smith throw out the lines that will get you laughing.
At 9:00 on Tuesday we have our resident artist Marvin Tate on his second week of the month long residency. Tate in his many incarnations (Poet, Talk-Show Host, Performance Artist, Time traveler, Soul Agitator, Singer-Songwriter and Funk-Meister) has worn many hats in his twenty-plus career and for this residency will call upon all of his alter-egos to help him discover new foundation. Tonight is Poems and Spoken Word Experimentations, With Special Guests, Khari/ Lemuel (Black Monks of Mississippi and Lo-Tide Trio), Mikal Avery (Lo Tide Trio), Juan Dies (Sones de Mexico Ensemble) & Fred Lonberg.
And finally, two must see shows that are happening next week. We have Christopher Owens from GIRLS next Wednesday and the rising uber-talented Superhumanoids on Saturday! Get those tickets while they last, because they won’t!
