This Week At The Hideout

Tonight we start the evening off with Cakewalk. During a cakewalk, participants walk, dance, or otherwise move around in a circle as music plays. When the music stops, everybody freezes. Organizers pick a number out of a hat), and whoever is standing on that number WINS A WHOLE CAKE! It’s just like grade school, except you’ll never lose to a fifth grader. With creative, edible prizes provided by favorite nearby bakeries and tunes from local musicians Phil Toscano (THE BRIBES), Dan Ingenthron, and Mike Holtz (Clip Art), this is your opportunity to check out your neighborhood bakeries, dig some 50s tunes, form strategic cake-winning alliances, and enjoy some free pastries all in one place. This is community-building in its most delicious form. Vegan, gluten-free, or just don’t like cake? You’re covered.

Later tonight the Immediate Sound Series presents the record release party for Joshua Abrams Natural Information SocietyIn celebration of the new album ‘Represencing’ on Eremite Records, Josh will be playing his guibri along with, Emmett Kelly on guitar, David Boykin on tenor saxophone, Jim Baker on ARP 2600 synthesizer, Ben Boye on autoharp, Lisa Alvarado on harmonium, & Frank Rosaly on drums.  DJ sets all night long by Eremite Records owner, Michael Ehlers.

Thursday we’ve got an early show with Glassnote Records who is proud to announce the newest addition to the independent label’s roster with the signing of Dublin, Ireland based band Little Green Cars.

Growing up together in Dublin, Little Green Cars came together five years ago at the tender age of 15 to begin crafting their emotionally charged rock songs. With influences ranging from early REM, to Elliott Smith and Woody Guthrie, Little Green Cars’ sound is accomplished and belies their young ages of just 20. The band spent the summer recording their debut album with renowned producer Markus Dravs (Mumford & Sons, Arcade Fire, Bjork, Coldplay) for release early next year.

Friday kick off the weekend with another edition of the always hilarious comedy game-show Shame That Tune!

Later that evening we host Grolsch Film works and VICE who present: The Fourth Dimension screening and after party happening on Friday, October 12th, at High Concept Labrotories and after party at The Hideout.  The Fourth Dimension brings together a trilogy of directors from across the globe: Harmony Korine, Alexey Fedorchenko and Jan Kwiecinski. Each director filmed a 30-minute short movie in their home nations – following an identical creative brief set by Eddy Moretti, executive director of VICE Films.  The Fourth Dimension screening and afterparty will feature complementary Grolsch and DJ set by Supreme Cuts.  You can RSVP here. Limited capacity. First come first serve.

Saturday we’ve got a stellar double bill with one of favorite local bands Chandeliers and Baltimore’s Horse Lords (featuring Jenn Wasner from Wye Oak on guitar!!!!) . Jenn’s guitar slayed at the Hideout Block Party/A.V. Fest last month, so don’t miss this rare chance to see her shred in an intimate setting.

The Hideout Dance Party this week will be tagged team by Gel Set and Chandeliers!

Tuesday Chicago indie darlings Dastardly’s third variety show at the Hideout, “MUUUUUUUURKAH!!”, is a tribute to our country (America) and why it is so great. The show is a celebration of all things America: fast cars, cheeseburgers, flags, eagles, the army, corporations, Clint Eastwood, invisible presidents on chairs, you name it. Like the last two productions Dastardly curated at the Hideout, “MUUUUUURKAH!!” is a cabaret-style show in two acts hosted by Dickie Phipps (played by TBS Just For Laughs member and Impress These Apes winner Chad Briggs,) with music provided by Dastardly, and comedic performances by members of Second City, iO and ComedySportz.

Finally, on Saturday morning this weekend we’re headed to Kenosha to doorknock with the Obama campaign. If you’d like to join the caravan we’ll meet at the Hideout on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and carpool logistics, departing at 9 for the Obama office in Kenosha. We’ll canvass there, talking to supporters and making sure they are ready to get out and vote — not only for the president but for Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin as well, and as an added bonus, for Rob Zerban, who is running for Congress against VP candidate Paul Ryan.

You can RSVP by replying to this email or via the Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/493221574021954

Please share this invite with anyone who wants to get involved. Bring friends and doorknock together, or come alone and we’ll pair you up with someone cool and fun. Likewise, you can bring your car to the Hideout and volunteer to drive to Kenosha, or we’ll hook you up to ride along with another driver.

Cheers,

The Hideout
